Tuesday, 10:25AM Update:
The Highway Patrol confirms a 4 month old baby girl has died as a result of injuries she suffered Monday night in a head-on collision in Macon County.
Three people, including a young child, are transported to the hospital after a head-on collision on Highlands Road/ US 64 Southeast of Franklin.
The victims are not being identified at this point. From what troopers are saying, it appears a 4-month-old is in critical condition.
A woman, believed to be the mother, was driving a white sedan on Highlands Road toward Franklin when her car collided with a pick-up headed in the opposite direction. The vehicles were spun around by the force of what's being described as "almost headlight-to-headlight" impact. Debris was scattered for more than 100 feet.
Investigators say it also appears the male driver of the pickup crossed the center-line, but that's a preliminary finding. Troopers say he was flown to Mission Hospital in Asheville and is believed to be in critical condition. The child and woman were taken to Angel Hospital in Franklin.
Highlands Road is back open after being blocked for more than four hours.
