Holiday Trash, Lures Thieves
Authorities say for the next few weeks, potential burglars are taking a close look at what you throw away. After Christmas, the paper trail could lead to uninvited holiday visitors.
Now, a rush at the recycling center. The day after Christmas draws high volume drop-offs.
Larry Winecoff sure had a banner holiday with his family, all for his grandkids. Winecoff says, "Santa treated them very well this year."
Authorities say breaking down the boxes, and recycling them is the smart thing to do. This is because potential thieves look at everything you throw away, to find out whether it's worth burglarizing. Every piece of trash, is a clue.
So as usual, cops suggest you don't leave packaging for valuable items out on the curb. Even placing your old t.v. on the street tells thieves you've gotten a new one. Important to consider, as the trash trail builds.
At a time when we'd rather think about giving, than those more interested in taking, experts say it's important not to let your guard down.
