NCDOT Continues Phase 2 Of Snow Cleanup
Tuesday's snow turns into a headache for some people stuck in neighborhoods with slick roads. NCDOT supervisors say they can't hit the back roads until they've got the main highways clear. Road crews loaded trucks with salt and sand to begin phase two of any big snow event. They headed for the back roads to add traction to some hard-packed snow-covered pavement.
Waiting patiently off Leicester Highway is a business owner who says she can't get to work until the snowplows arrive. Missy Simerson says it would be nice if road crews could spend more time working on neighborhood roads. Her friend blocked her drive because she was slipping on the main road. Without chains or 4-wheel drive, cars and trucks can't make it to the top of this hill.
Temperatures that fell into the single digits Wednesday morning also creating problems road crews. NCDOT officials say they're focusing on the secondary roads. But they can only use salt and sand to treat the roads, because in most areas, the snow is packed too thin to scrape away.
