Ready for Winter Weather
Road crews in the higher mountain counties are already preparing for the possibility of snowfall.
Crews at the DOT maintenance yard in Madison County rolled out their 25 trucks. Another 15 in Yancey County also went out early this morning. They are spreading a mix of salt and sand onto the highways.
Crews hope to get a level of protection ahead of the storm.
Chris Deyton, NCDOT Dist. Engineer, "we're getting everything prepared, all our trucks have spreaders on them, plows on them, all beforehand because when it starts to snow we want to be on the road a soon as it starts snowing, that way we're getting ahead of the storm instead of playing catchup."
Crews are working 12 hour shifts to keep the area roads safe for travelers as the bad weather moves into our area.
