Area Shelters Open During Cold

The American Red Cross and many other services have opened shelters in our area. If you know of other shelters that are open, email us at news@wlos.com.

Henderson, NC:
-American Red Cross (203 2nd Avenue East, Hendersonville). Personnel will be in place at 10:00 a.m. Residents needing shelter can contact the Amercian Red Cross at (828) 693-5605.
-First Baptist Church (312 5th Avenue West, Hendersonville). Personnel will be in place at noon. Residents needing shelter can contact First Baptist Church at (828) 693-3493.

Transylvania, NC:
-The Haven of Transylvania County is operating a Code Purple this evening for individuals experiencing homelessness.
Location: 32 Oakdale Street, behind the Haven and the Bread of Life
The shelter will be open from 4pm until 8am. Blankets and pillows will be provided. Use of drugs and alcohol will be prohibited, well behaved dogs are welcome. Space is limited to 16, sign in starts at 4pm, and the facility will close at 8am. For more information please call 828-877-2040.

Oconee County, SC:
-Oconee County Emergency Services is opening a warming shelter at Saint Mark United Methodist Church (616 Quincy Rd. Seneca,  SC).  Contact: Emergency Management Director, Scott Krein at 864-710-7027 or call 864-271-8222.

Anderson, SC:
-Anderson Civic Center (3027 MLK Jr. Blvd., formally Mall Rd.) Transportation to and from shelter available by calling Anderson County Emergency Services at 864-260-4444.

Spartanburg, SC:
-Emergency shelter housed at the Central Church of Christ (2052 North Church Street Place. Spartanburg, SC. 29303) Opens at 6:30 p.m. tonight with dinner provided. Breakfast will be provided in the morning.   

-Restoration Church (6655 Pottery Rd. Spartanburg, SC 29303)

Greenville, SC:
-Upper Campus of the Phillis Wheatley Center (40 John McCarroll Way)
Will be open beginning at 7:30 p.m. tonight

-Nicholtown Baptist Church (327 Ackley Road)
Will be open beginning at 6:00 p.m. tonight

-Sterling Gym (113 Minus Street)
Open from 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night to 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning

-Salvation Army providing an Emergency CWW (Cold Wet Weather) hospitality shelter at 417 Rutherford Street.

Laurens, SC:
Laurens County Emergency Management Agency has established warming stations at the following locations: Laurens County Fire Department, Clinton City Public Safety, and Laurens City Police Department and Fire Department.  If anyone needs transportation, they can call 911 or 864-984-2523 and transportation can be provided as available.  Should anyone have additional questions, please call the Laurens County Emergency Management Agency (321 South Harper Street, Laurens, S.C. 29360) at (864) 984-4731 / 0812. Citizens that have pet(s) may bring them to a warming center only if the pet(s) are in a pet carrier or on a leash. Pet owners are responsible for maintaining their pet(s) during their duration at the warming center.
