Makeover Winners Are Tireless Volunteers
They were invited to Aabani Salon in Biltmore Village because the community recognizes their beauty.
"Came as a surprise definitely," says Robert Trigueros.
"I still don't know what to say," Heidi Wagner tells us.
Both are winners of the News 13 New Year, New You Contest. The people who nominated them say an afternoon at the salon is recognition long over due.
Robert gives kids at Eliada Homes a vehicle to change their life. He volunteers for their mini-bike program.
The motocross national champ doesn't just donate time, he's also donated equipment and even his own trophies to the children.
"It gives them better tools and a second chance, so when they graduate they can handle anything life throws at them," says Trigueros.
Meanwhile, Heidi is founder of the rescue group Boxer Butts & Other Mutts.
"She is a hero to animals in need," a veterinarian wrote about Heidi, who became emotional when she read the kind words. "And I have never met someone who's intentions are so pure and who's heart is so big. She has another job so she spends all of her time attending to the needs of these pets. "
Wagner wiped tears, and told us she never expected a prize for her tireless efforts.
"No not at all," says Wagner. "I guess that's why I was at a loss of words. It's not about recognition."
Whether they see them before or after the makeover, admirers see the picture of selflessness.
