Affordable Care Act Enrollment Up
The number of North Carolinians signing up for the Affordable Care Act is on the rise. North Carolina now ranks 3rd in the nation for the number of people signing up among states without their own marketplace.
Nearly 108,000 people from North Carolina enrolled through late December and 23 percent of those were between the ages of 18 and 34. Healthcare experts say large numbers of healthy young people are needed in the system in order for it to work. If not enough enroll, then insurance companies will have an option to receive support from the federal government to pay for the insurance plans which may become weighted down with too many sick and elderly patients.
News 13 is conducting a town hall at the WNC Ag Center this Thursday to discuss the Affordable Care Act and it's impact on your life. You can watch it live and learn more about how to obtain tickets to be a guest in the audience at WLOS.com.
