Expensive Water Bill

Record rainfall yields an expensive water bill for the Jackson County school system.

Heavy rain over the last year has delayed the completion of a new gym and performing arts center at Smoky Mountain High School.

The added months of construction yielded a water bill from the Tuckeseigee Water & Sewer Authority of more than $16,000.

However, the school superintendent says the final water bill may change.

"Because we were delayed because of the rain, we have had the delay putting in a meter and therefore there are some questions over what the bill will be," says Superintendent Dr. Mike Murray.

Murray says the new gym and performing arts center should be finished by late February or early March.
