Martin Luther King Jr. Remembered

Special events held in the mountains Monday show that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream lives on. From marches to services, it was a day of observance.

Students at Western Carolina University participated in a march on campus Monday afternoon. The annual event is hosted by the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. The march made it's way through campus and students could be heard chanting and singing. They say it's their way of reliving the movement that paved the way for their future.

"The first year I did this, people would kind of stop and look at us like what's going on and it makes you really evaluate how was it when they marched and people stopped and stared at them or things thrown at them. It really makes you think about what you are putting forth in life and what are you doing to change," said Kyree Harris.

MLK Day was also celebrated at several local churches. Kenilworth Presbyterian held it's annual service. As well as Nazareth First Baptist Church. During their candle light service, they honored four young adults with the Martin Luther King Jr. Adult Award.
