Storm Knocks Out Power
Thousands of mountain homes lost power Thursday night after howling winds blew down trees across power lines. It happened in North Asheville around 2 a.m. hundreds of people woke up to cold buildings and dark businesses. Residents in the Grove Park neighborhood say the temperature fell into the 50s in their apartments.
Business owners were forced to shut down this morning. A salon operator was forced to cancel appointments and break the bad news that no style would be available to customers waiting outside.
A team of bucket truck operators spliced broken lines that caused the blackout. Thursday night's ferocious winds tossed a pine tree into the cables, knocking power out to hundreds of homes on Macon Avenue and the Grove Park neighborhood.
Crews restored the power and brought heat and light back into homes and businesses Friday afternoon.
