WATCH: Bitter Cold, Weather Update
The coldest air in years is here! Wind chills are below zero early this morning for many locations. Check on pets and animals to make sure they are kept warm and have plenty of water.
Snow is falling and will fall through early-Friday in the high country, mainly above 3,500 feet. These areas will receive between 3 & 6". Lower elevations near the TN border will receive between 1 & 2".
The French Broad River Valley is seeing a dusting to half-inch. The northern side of Buncombe County can expect up to an inch of snow.
Sunshine returns by this afternoon, but the Arctic chill will continue with highs in the middle to upper 20s for much of the region.
Saturday will bring more sun and milder weather with highs near 40 degrees. By Sunday, another Arctic Front approaches bringing a chance of a wintry mix of rain and freezing rain, then snow by evening.
This next round of bitter cold will likely be even colder!
