Snow Day Decision
No school for Buncombe County Thursday. An optional Teacher Work Day is being held. That will make six for the year, so far.
The buses for all Western North Carolina districts were parked Wednesdays because roads were deemed too dangerous to transport children to school. Snow days for mountain school systems are starting to add up with the reality of Saturday make-up days looming.
But officials say they're always hopeful and need to be ready for what Thursday might bring.
"Our transportation folks are out cranking buses to make sure that they'll crank and get them going today. In case we should have school in some fashion tomorrow," said Bill Parker of Henderson County Schools.
Henderson County will also not have classes Thursday. Roads-and-driveways leading to many of the district's schools are still just too slick for safe driving. Tuesday's school bus accident that injured one student points-up the importance of the "safety first" approach to school closings
