Snow Blowing In
A quick burst of winter weather in the northern mountain counties created some tricky travel conditions.
Earlier in the night, it wasn't so much the snow on the ground that was causing a problem. It was the whipping winds that had drivers on I-40 gripping the wheel a little tighter.
North of Waynesville just a few miles shy of the state line. The sight of snow on I-40 meant it was time for NCDOT crews to work their magic. With cold temperatures in the future, laying down salt to prevent icy roads is their best defense.
But for drivers they had a different battle to fight. Winds were blowing the snow sideways and reducing visibility. The potentially hazardous conditions had some folks pulling into this rest stop. Others more conditioned to winter weather say they enjoyed the white sight.
