Henderson County Deputy Arrested
A Henderson County Sheriff's Deputy is arrested for inappropriate conduct with a student. 27-year-old Daniel Lindsey is charged with three felony counts of sex offense with a student. Lindsey had been working as a school resource officer at the Balfour Education Center. Sheriff Charles McDonald says the victim was a 16-year-old student at the school when the offenses occurred. He says the relationship was consensual, but adds consent has no bearing when one of the people involved is an officer or custodial figure.
"This is something to be concerned about," said McDonald at a press conference Saturday morning. "I regret terribly that we're having to deal with it. But we will deal with it, make no mistake."
Lindsey was taken into custody around midnight Friday. He is out on bond. Lindsey had been with the sheriff's office since 2008. He has been fired from the department. The sheriff says more charges are likely, but he does not believe any other students were involved at this point.
