Mall Walkers Stopped Short
A long-time tradition will stop short at the Blue Ridge Mall on Monday.
The building posted a notice on its doors this week that says the mall will open at 9 a.m. starting Monday.
Right now, ritual walkers can hit the mall starting at seven. Shops are the closed but the building stays open, and dozens stride in.
Hull Storey Gibson, the company that owns the mall, says it's taking the same steps at all 20 of its malls, saying it can provide a more enjoyable experience for visitors when the facility is fully operational and staffed.
Walker Sam Stone says he's been coming here for years, he's seen stores come and go and met friends. It's an exercise that he'll miss.
"You can still walk in the mall but you have to wait until 9 a.m.," says Stone. "And many of us have lives beyond walking."
