Residents Concerned About Safety Of Road

Some Jackson County residents say a riverside road needs more guardrails to stop vehicles from ending up in the water. A SUV careened off Ledbetter Road this morning and ended up in the Tuckaseegee River in Cullowhee.

The driver says an oncoming car forced her to over correct.  Just last week a pick-up truck landed in the river during the snow storm. Neither driver was hurt badly. But there have been fatal accidents along this stretch of road, and residents say it needs more safety features.

The DOT says improvements, including guardrails, are in its plans. That project's ranking will come this Summer, which will determine funding.
