Slick Roads Cause Multiple Wrecks
Today's snow caused accidents and sent many cars into ditches all over the mountains. Snow fell quickly in the afternoon and covered everything making driving very dangerous.
The DOT says several cars got into fender benders or slipped into ditches along roads like the Smoky Mountain Expressway between Haywood and Jackson counties.
The Highway Patrol says it counted seven accidents since Midnight, but none of them serious.
Chris Haywood drove home through the snow from Sylva she and her husband finding it hard to get traction up to their house in Waynesville.
It's just really crazy and I don't think the salt trucks can actually get through the traffic to do what they need to do, she says.
The DOT says it is attacking the primary roads first, plowing snow and putting down a mixture of sand and salt. Even with cars for a time at a standstill on the expressway, plows were out doing their job.
Crews are on 12 hour shifts. And that will continue with more winter weather expected this week.
