MANNA Student Food Drive

Area high school students are gearing up for a competition that will help feed the hungry in Western North Carolina.

Tuesday was the kickoff of MANNA Food Bank's 6th annual Student Food Drive.

Representatives from 15 area high schools came to MANNA. Those students will lead food gathering events at their own schools in the coming months.

Hailey Gettinger, A.C. Reynolds senior, "we gather food and we gather money. Each school has its own events and we gather as much food and money as we can. It's a competition between the schools to see who can raise the most food."

This is Hailey's fourth year in the student food drive.

Last year's event collected 34,000 pounds of food for MANNA Food Bank.
