Stocking Up for the Storm
As residents stock up for this week's winter storm, supplies are running out.
Ice or snow melt is difficult to find in the mountains. Experts say use kitty litter to melt snow as an alternative. The Lowe's store in Arden sold out of sleds before 11am Monday. Managers say they'll also run short of some types of pipe insulation as the week goes on. They say you can wrap pipes in things like rags and aluminum foil to avoid water from freezing.
Grocery store shelves in Buncombe County were also bare Monday. People tell News 13 they are shopping early, before too much snow stacks.
"My cupboards are pretty bare," says customer Sissel Legon. "I figured now is a good time to go shopping before it really comes down tomorrow or the next day. I live on a hill, can't get up and can't get down."
The Fresh Market on Merrimon Avenue stocked up on flowers and candy for Valentine's Day. But, once the snow started to fall Monday, they put in an extra food order.
It's also a good idea to check your vehicle, and make sure it's filled with anti-freeze. Keep a disasters supplies kit inside your vehicle, in case you are stranded for an extended period of time.
