Icy Driving Conditions

Driving conditions around Asheville are continuing to worsen tonight as the snow starts coming down hard.

The snows been falling on and off all day but it still hasn't amounted to much on most roads.

In north Asheville this morning, cars were slipping and sliding on Montford Park Place. A few hours ago most of the snow that covered the road earlier was gone.

We met one driver who's figured out how to get around in the snow.

Lee Gregory, north Asheville resident, "my way of getting around in the snow without 4-wheel drive is lower your air pressure in your tires by half. It's as good as having four wheel drive."

While driving wasn't too bad earlier today conditions are changing and the highway patrol says stay off the roads if you can.

NC Highway Patrol troopers say it only takes seconds in snowy and icy conditions to lose control. They say avoid slamming on your brakes if possible and steer into the skid.  Troopers say give yourself more distance and slow down.
