ALABAMA - A new survey shows the flu is hitting colleges and universities in Alabama harder than any other state except Washington.

A state health official says the early start to the school year is a factor.

For every ten thousand students in Alabama, the survey found 119 new suspected flu cases last week.

Georgia had the next highest rate in the surrounding states with 57 new cases per ten thousand students.Survey: Swine Flu Hits Alabama Colleges Hard
